Type 2 MI

Type 1 MI corresponds to a spontaneous Myocardial Infarction secondary to atherosclerotic plaque rupture, ulceration, fissuring, erosion, or dissection with resulting intraluminal thrombus leading to decreased myocardial blood flow or distal platelet emboli with consequent myocyte necrosis (acute coronary syndrome, [ACS])

Whereas type 2 MI was defined as MI due to supply/demand mismatch, without plaque rupture, but also with myocardial necrosis evidenced by a rise and/or fall of cardiac biomarkers above the 99th percentile reference value of a normal population.
