What's new with Influenza in ICD-10

Influenza will still happen after Oct 1, 2015. Will the documentation requirements change ? Not really. There are a few things that might need to be further elucidated sometimes. Obviousely, need to make sure the documentation for Influenza is clear and in the chart. Further documentation is sometimes also needed

Ex:
With Associated lung abscess (this is rare, and usually documented when present)

o Other manifestations:
  • Pleural effusion (usually well documented when present)
  • Sinusitis (i see this missing from documentation sometimes)
  • Encephalopathy (yep! Gets missed often- please remember)
  • Myocarditis (rare, but can occur and needs documentation)
  • Otitis media (mmmm. Interesting)
  • Perforation of tympanic membrane (huh?)
