What is Code 345.4 ?
Although nonspecific, this is actually what "Deja-vu" codes in ICD-9. (In fact, it's the same code for partial seizure, but now you see how non-specificity can be problematic). This time however, all evidence points that it is for real:
- Providers and CMS have done significant investments in preparation efforts
- ICD-9 numbering system cannot accommodate more codes to support current technology.
- United States continues to lag behind other countries in its implementation of new coding systems.
What should we do as physicians?
We need to keep the momentum going and learn about it, and how accurate documentation is ICD neutral and crucial to reflect a patient's true condition.
